Are you new?

I didn't have the time to look at what the novel has to say about Anne, but IIRC, it's not very positive. :-( I would *like* to think of her having potential that had simply been squashed from being so much under her mother's thumb, but I get the feeling that to JA, she was as she appeared: sickly, cross, not very well-mannered, and with no intelligent conversation. :-(
