Jane Bennett believes that Wickham "has been very imprudent, and has deserved to lose Mr. Darcy's regard." This is hardly condemning his character as irretrievable! The way Jane describes Mr. Wickham, he could have been taken by a bad investment scheme, or fallen for a pretty face, or spoken embarrassingly in an unguarded way about Darcy.
