I also sometimes wonder at the irony.   Written by Adrian (4/29/2010 6:30 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Different times, penned by Line
Are you new?

Surely Darcy saw how Collins hovered around Lizzy at Netherfield and may well have thought Collins was positioning himself to propose to Lizzy. In saying that Collins was fortunate in his choice of wife, Darcy may have had in mind that Lizzy was also fortunate in Collins's choice of wife (not choosing her), whether he made his choice of Charlotte before or after an unsuccessful try for Lizzy.

Is Darcy also feeling a little relief that Lizzy is still available when he might have expected at their last meeting at Netherfield that she would not be? That is not to say that Darcy would have minded when he left Netherfield, but he might be a little relieved at Rosings.
