and Darcy's reassessing his OWN values, too...   Written by Heather Leigh (4/29/2010 5:02 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, That is a good summary of the choices so far. And while, penned by AnnetteJ
Are you new?

Poor Mr. Darcy... his feelings for Elizabeth are causing him to question his core values about what matters in the choice of a marriage partner! Clearly this question is preoccupying him.

Also seems significant that this exchange about Mr. Collins' "fortunate choice of a wife" comes immediately after their conversational dead end in talking about Bingley's leaving Netherfield and whether Bingley will come back or give up that estate. Neither one of them can speak frankly ("Will your friend come back to marry my sister?" "Don't expect my friend to come back and be ensnared by your sister!") Awkward silence!

Mr. Darcy is trying to get the conversation moving again, and starts an apparently harmless topic, but oops! there it is again, the question of men choosing wives.
