question on livings   Written by RobertaK (4/29/2010 3:11 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Or further into the future: one of her (younger), penned by kathleen (elder)
Are you new?

When a living is given for a lifetime can it be passed to a child? The living that Mr Austin (JA's father)had was passed to his eldest son on his death or at his retirement but the one in MP was only for the lifetime and then reverted to the Bertrams to gift again. Did JA's brother get a lifetime gift of the living when his father died or was it inherited?

I can see Charlotte's thinking that a younger son would be able to fill the living while the eldest would have Longbourn but at Mr Collins death it would revert to Lady Catherine's heirs to fill again.
