Are you new?

I agree that Elizabeth's comments may have sounded different to contemporary ears than they do to ours. Perhaps she started from the premise that Mr. Collins was so evidently foolish that there was no point in denying it, plus she may have wanted to emphasize that her friend *was* a sensible woman, despite this decision!
