in consequence of the missive, Why did Darcy bring up the Collins marriage?, penned by Adrian
I too think that after the comment at Rosings, Darcy is trying to be more open for conversation to Lizzie. And when a man as Darcy tries to talk to the women he likes and wants to keep the conversation going why not bring up a dear friend. Surely he expected Lizzie to want to talk about her good friends fortune in marriage. I don't think he thought Elizabeth felt that way or he may have steered clear of the topic. As for Lizzies response, hasn't anyone ever been confronted with an awkward conversation and you get asked a question and you can stop yourself from saying too much. Perhaps Lizzies response was a shear nervous answer?
