but as Lizzy said, It is not sound. Can a sensible person really believe that happiness in marriage is entirely a matter of chance? That, in the long run, it makes no difference, say, if a man marries a sweet-tempered woman like Jane Bennet, or a silly woman like her mother? To me, this seems like the rationalization of a woman who is afraid she is always going to be single, not a thoughtful deliberation. If she had had a choice between a Mr. Collins and a Col. Fitzwilliam (with a steady income), would she have tossed a coin to decide between them? If not, then she does not really believe her own rationalization. If yes, then she is not sensible.
