Not only is Charlotte not what Elizabeth believed   Written by kathleen (elder) (4/29/2010 5:55 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Best Friends Forever?, penned by Robbin
Are you new?

her to be, Elizabeth is not what Charlotte believes. From Chapter 32:

[Charlotte] had once or twice suggested to Elizabeth the possibility of his being partial to her, but Elizabeth always laughed at the idea; and Mrs. Collins did not think it right to press the subject, from the danger of raising expectations which might only end in disappointment; for in her opinion it admitted not of a doubt, that all her friend's dislike would vanish, if she could suppose him to be in her power.

Elizabeth assumed that Charlotte had the same sense of integrity (one of those better feelings) as Elizabeth. And Charlotte assumed that Elizabeth was just as willing to marry a man she didn't like as Charlotte was. From that point forward, I can see the two of them still being friends but NOT really close friends ever again.
