A Comparison to the Netherfield Ball   Written by Adrian (4/28/2010 12:28 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, I should have added..., penned by Line
Are you new?

Darcy can't get a break, can he? (LOL) At the Netherfield ball he encounters Lizzy just after she has heard the disappointing news that Wickham will not be attending, and Darcy reaps the frustration Lizzy feels.

Now, again at Hunsford, Lizzy is feeling expectation that Col. Fitzwilliam might be calling to ask after her well being. Again, she is disappointed to find it is Darcy instead. Poor Darcy starts his halting (self-destructive) proposal with one strike against him in not being Col. Fitzwilliam in addition to strikes two and three over how he has treated Jane and Wickham.

No wonder Lizzy tells him that no matter how he had proposed she would not have accepted him. The man's chances were DOA.
