Paternal Society   Written by Lenora (4/28/2010 9:32 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, Advice to Lizzy from others regarding Wickham, penned by Karen G
Are you new?

It would seem that regardless of the relationship, Mrs. Gardiner's reference to Mr. Bennett was in recognition of him being the head of the household. "You don't want to disappoint your Father" has been a threat used over the centuries.

I believe Mr. Bennett's statement to Lizzy regarding Wickham is one more way to tease and receive pleasure in the reaction. Not even Lizzy is exempt. Mr. Bennett also may see through Wickham and is what influenced Mr. Bennett's use of the word "jilt."
