How so? how can it affect them?   Written by Stephanie (4/27/2010 12:20 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Deception in Ch. 24-28 (long), penned by Connie
Are you new?

You put so much into your posts, so many different characters and situations that deception shows up in! But that makes it hard for me to respond, since I want to say something about almost every factiod.

I will say that Charlotte's marriage to a man of no value has a rather large difference to Wickham's upcoming engagment to a very good girl, of whom Elizabeth knows no harm. Yes, Elizabeth is biased, but her biased to tend in favour of the general wisdom of the day: you can LEARN to love your spouse. She thinks Charlotte CAN NOT learn to love Mr. Collins, but Wickham learning to love a nice, ordinary girl seems possible to her.

I doubt Charlotte is meant to literally not hear. She is using a gentle hand in discouraging her husband's excesses. She certainly knows he is still saying things he should not be.
