in consequence of the missive, goals of girls' education (from Ch. 8), penned by Heather Leigh
and searched and pretty much what I have found for women at the socio-economic level of the Bennets is an ability to read and write and to do basic math calculations, in addition to knowning another language (French or Italian). As others have said, painting and drawing, sewing, music, and dancing would be considered essentials. Also knowing the workings of a household and a kitchen, even if one was not the cook, and how to give orders to servants would be considered important.
