I meant that the two conflicting stories (or hints of stories) are traceable to just one man each: Mr Wickham and Mr Darcy, discounting Mr Bingley's hearsay as you do.

I agree that Elizabeth did a good (rigorous) job of processing Miss Bingley's statements. That's part of what contrasts with her indulgence of Mr Wickham.
