Competition is ok. Scarcity of resources (husbands) ignites this...let the best win.

I think Mrs Lucas is just fed up of Mrs Bennet...she´s applying justice..."NOW IT´S MY TURN TO BRAG A BIT." No harm there...

I think there is a darker side on Mrs Bennet side of the fence...she can actually act upon her envious thoughts playing stupid tricks to catch the guy.
