... or at least rationalizing, when she says, "I am not romantic, you know; I never was. I ask only a comfortable home..."?

If Charlotte is telling the truth, then Lizzy and Charlotte always did have different attitudes toward marriage, and the difference is not based on their ages.

However, I do agree that if Lizzy had been 27 and unmarried as well, she might have been able to understand Charlotte's position more easily, even if she still didn't agree with it.
