I'm afraid I think anyone who would hire a Mr. Collins to oversee the spiritual life of a parish might not have a burning passion for the theological virtues either in the abstract or in practice. I think, & his list suggests, that he can get away with a minimum of attention to spiritual & corporal works of mercy, as long as he is careful to demean himself with grateful toadiness to his patroness.
