BTW using French   Written by OlgaI (4/23/2010 6:31 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, And don't forget, penned by nan duval
Are you new?

It seems JA's bad characters use French (or Italian) much oftener than good ones. I don't want to go for spoilers but it does seem so.

I will take an example from another novel (MP): Crowford uses French idioms while Fanny or other Mansfieldians never do. I take it is a code for wordly easy "French" attitude ooposed to the conservative "good old English"? In Emma Mrs E sports Italian cliches, too :)
