Talking of Beaux and being unsincere...   Written by Benedicte (4/23/2010 5:47 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Ch 19: Caroline’s letter of leave taking to Jane, penned by Kathryn Ann
Are you new?

We have at least one other example of a Jane Austen character talking of beaux. It is Emma's Mrs Elton, another vain unsincere person (ch 35:"Here comes this dear old beau of mine, I protest! (...)this good old Mr. Woodhouse")...

It is as if the use of this French neologism would classify its speaker among the unenglish (ie: ungentlemanlike) heroes of JA's. A point which was alluded to in the Emma board a few months ago ("National stereotypes in Emma")
