I think in this case beaux mean something of admirers. A beautiful young woman was supposed to be "admired" by male acquantance, such admiration not necessarily meaning love but a just tribute to her qualities (Mr Knightley admiring Jane Fairfax, for instance).

But these lines sound insincerely and affectedly indeed. Meet Miss Bignley!
