Charlotte marries for security   Written by Aaron (4/23/2010 4:04 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Charlotte vs Lizzy, penned by Connie
Are you new?

I think that we look at Charlottes decision to marry Mr. Collins in 21st century views. In Janes time women had to marry and even though Charlotte had siblings and parents who would undoubtably take care of her she didn't like being a burden. I think I can understand that. Has anyone considered that Charlotte wanted a family? Children? A house of her own to run? Mr. Collins was her ticket out of spinsterhood, though her finacial situatiion may not have been as bad as Lizzies, I think that her happiness might have been. Mr. Collins may not have been a charmer and we can all agree he was a bit ridiculous, Charlotte was willing to accept those things for security and a family.
