in consequence of the missive, "A Convenient Distance", penned by Kathryn Ann
since we know she does not think Charlotte will be happy and has not a high opinion of Mr Collins' character. She is telling white lies here, in an entirely forgiveable effort to make up to Sir William for the rudeness of her mother, who has insisted he is mistaken (wildly unlikely on so important a subject), and Lydia, who has as good as called him a liar, by extra civility on her part. She is telling nothing but the truth about the distance to London, however. Mr Collins in his "olive branch" letter tells us Hunsford is near Westerham in Kent, a real place which is only about 20 miles from London.
