Mary's vanity   Written by Connie (4/23/2010 11:09 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, few of us who do not cherish a feeling of self-complacency, penned by Stephanie
Are you new?

Yes, I think Mary's accomplishments were mostly for the sake of winning others' good opinion. Since she was plain, she needed a way to distinguish herself. She does not have any real sense, and never comes up with insights of her own--she just tries to "teach" others with platitiudes! Likewise, her playing and singing seem more for her own benefit than for her family or friends' enjoyment, although she does play her Scottish airs to enable her sisters to dance with some officers.
