probably a very big family...   Written by Benedicte (4/22/2010 6:19 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Elizabeth "shooting from the hip" over Charlotte.., penned by jeffrey
Are you new?

The Lucas siblings are at least 5 (JA writes of Charlotte sisterS and brotherS..)... I would suggest they are at least 6 or 7.

The young Lucas we read about in ch 5 must be no more than 12 (given the kind of argument he has with Mrs Bennet). There must be at least 2 older brothers, because I do not think such a young chap would be among "the boys [who] were relieved from their apprehension of Charlotte's dyning an old maid".
Then mary Lucas who was allowed to vidsit her sister may already be out... and the author says tha "the younger girls formed hopes of coming out a year or two sooner than they might otherwise have done".

So, with only a tolerable fortune, probably largely used in the buying of Lucas Lodge, there would not be much left to any of the children (apart from the eldest son who would inherit the estate)
