I don't think so   Written by OlgaI (4/22/2010 2:21 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, I think this is a modern, Western attitude, penned by Connie
Are you new?

In most traditional cultures, Christian at least, woman either entered the husband's family or stay under her father's (or ather fisure whatever) protection and control. When married, even in a big many-generation family a woman had some field of authority as a wife and mother, and even had a chance to move "up" in this structure. Unmarried she remained a daughter only. I think it's hard to be always a subordinate in one of your relation's household.

Charlotte is not Emma - a rich spinster ruling auntie would be - for many reasons which I think we'd better omit before we are banned to Austenuations :)
