Even his letter to Mr. Bennet indicates that Mr. Collins is not doing any more than is required by the Church of England. It's a lot like his time at university, where he just kept up the necessary terms. Collins does get credit, however, for writing his own sermons. But can you just imagine how tedious those sermons are?
