...it's always been a bit uncomfortable to me that 27-year-old Charlotte was the closest friend of 20-year-old Lizzy, and (it's implied) had been for some considerable time. It never occurred to me before I read your message here that Lizzy might be the only young person in the neighborhood who was near Charlotte's intellectual level, and vice-versa. And in families with the same sort of defects.

Thanks for a delightful new insight!
