What else to be done?   Written by OlgaI (4/21/2010 2:56 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, For Mr. Bennet's Amusement, penned by BarbaraB
Are you new?

Mr Bennet is trapped in an unequal marriage and has to find his way through it as there's no way out. I imagine such a partner as Mrs Bennet must be utterly irritating indeed. But he can not allow himself to be irritated - it would only end in having two hysterical persons on the premises and Longbourn wouldn't hold that much, - and it is not his personal disposition, either.

So he has grown to be sardonic, it's a kind of self-defense.

Some would say he must have led his wife to grow wiser. Personally, I don't think there'd be much success :)
