Precisely what's horrid about it   Written by Mary Anne (4/21/2010 8:35 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, marriage had always been her object;, penned by Stephanie
Are you new?

]she MUST have some misgivings at acknowledging that this is her best option.

Whatever misgivings she has, she copes with them well---I think the misgivings are more on my part than on hers, that her "best" option is such a bad one by our standards. I also have some modern-day shrinkings based on Mr. Collins' response to Lizzy's refusal; a man who can't acknowledge that "no" really means no has some ugly connotations, but that doesn't apply to Mr. Collins. He's just appallingly stupid and conceited and I'd hate to think my future depended on him, but for Charlotte he's a bit of luck. She doesn't just make lemonade out of her lemons; she mixes a margarita! ;-)
