I had not seen it clearly so far, but thanks to your post, I now likewise feel that Darcy's inadequacy at conversation (at least in the presence of Elizabeth, because even Wickham says that he can be good company when he chooses) may well stem from a feeling of inferiority itself furthered by the growing fascination he feels for Lizzie...


Has it never occurred to any of you to be all the duller when in presence of persons you regarded very highly?
