Just because you refused him did you think....   Written by Silvia A (4/20/2010 8:26 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Mr Collins, Charlotte, and Lizzy, penned by Mary Anne
Are you new?

............every woman would?

Did Charlotte really think that was the cause of Lizzy's exclamation? It seems like a sly poke at Lizzy's vanity---not really intended to wound but to block the real point of the outcry, which was "I know you can't be considering marrying someone so stupid."

I like very much your view of this reaction of Charlotte to Lizzy's. I've allways seen it as Charlotte leading Lizzy's thoghts in another direcction to block the real point of the outcry and try to "save" a little their relationship; but I have never consider that maybe also there is a sly poke ; like a battle on her mind between the part that cry "Imposible" as Lizzy and the part that wants to see only the bright side of the match (and tries to embarrass Lizzy)

I have thought Charlotte totally sure of what she was doing, but now I consider that at least she had some doubts and fears.
