Not taking the signs seriously   Written by Kathi (4/20/2010 7:55 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Missing all the signs, penned by Barbara
Are you new?

When Charlotte expressed her opinion that it was better to know as little as possible about a potential marriage partner's character, Lizzy didn't believe she could possibly be serious. Lizzy didn't so much miss the signs as believe that Charlotte must be kidding.

I think Adrian is right -- like a lot of people, Lizzy couldn't believe that someone she liked could have such different values from her own (a very common failing, social science research tells us). It's not necessarily admirable, but it doesn't make Lizzy especially bad at perceiving others' characters.
