and you just discovered your best friend really thinks happiness in marriage is all a matter of chance, that you should try to "secure" a husband before you knew his character, that the security of having an establishment was the most important factor in finding a husband, would you want to open your heart to her? More to the point, would Lizzy want to share her true feelings about Wickham, Darcy, or any other man who showed interest in her or in whom she was interested? Charlotte can only give advice that Lizzy would see as mercenary, since she is not romantic. It's probable that Charlotte can no more appreciate Lizzy's way of looking at marriage than Lizzy can hers. How can there be confidence between them on this subject?
