Missing all the signs Written by Barbara (4/20/2010 12:59 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, That Lizzy shoul dbe shocked at Charlotte's..., penned by Adrian

This has nothing to do with what I would or wouldn't do. If a close friend of someone is always very clear that she intends to take whatever opportunity for marriage comes her way and make the most of it, makes no secret that this what she thinks and this is how she feels, and then does exactly that, it seems that anyone who would then be surprised or shocked has not been paying attention very closely.

I guess this is the point about Elizabeth that JA is trying to make with this Charlotte situation. For all that she feels that she knows and for all that she trusts her own ability to read people, some things that are very obvious--or should be very obvious--are getting right by her.
