We need to distinguish   Written by Adrian (4/20/2010 12:53 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Valid or invalid objections to a marriage partner, penned by Barbara
Are you new?

The ideals of the romantic movement espoused by Marianne in S&S and spoofed relentlessly in "Love and Freindship" are not the same as marrying for love in P&P, so references to those other works is not, strictly speaking, parallel to the distinctions between Charlotte's (sad but probably necessary) pragmatism and Lizzy's rejection of Mr. Collins. Just as Charlotte's pragmatism would not suit Lizzy (at least not at her present age), Lizzy's idealism is a luxury Charlotte does not feel she can afford.
