I can not argue that Mr. Collins' offer, had it been acceptable, would have been an act of a savior (as well as procuring an amiable partner for himself).

But I still can not blame Elizabeth for declining, nor could I root for Mary to get him as a hand-me-down. Mary would have not had the slightest idea how to handle marriage to Mr. Collins, and the two of them together would have had no humour, no perspective, and no tolerance, each thinking the other should listen to them!
