Lizzy is not 27 and plain looking. There's a huge amount of difference in the boat they're in. Would Lizzy have turned down an offer if she was 27 and had never been asked? It's hard to be unequivical about this when she's only 20 and very nice looking.

My standards of her behavior must be slightly higher than yours, I don't think it's really to her credit that she didn't drop an old and valued friend because that friend didn't behave the way Lizzy thought she should.
