in that whole conversation, he hints just enough to pique her curiosity and it seems to me that he draws her in to his intriguing tale but tantalizing her.

He talks about Darcy's ill usage, then he calls Darcy's behavior scandalous, and so on--never giving any more detail than will draw her into wanting the next set of revelations.

It's well done. He's felt her out and determined just how much he could say at once to let her feel that he himself is being quite discreet.
