Recall that Jane and Cassandra Austen lived in moderate comfort only because they had brothers both prosperous enough to take care of both their families and their sisters, and dutiful enough to take care of their sisters.

...But really, there was more to Mrs. Bennet's silliness that just her obsession to see her daughters cared for.
