This post mentions that Mrs. Bennet knows Mrs. Long will not be back until the day before the Assembley, but what was more interesting to me was that Mrs. Bennet has obviously told Mrs. Long that Mr. Bennet would *not* visit Bingley, and thus we have Mrs. Long's promise to make the introduction of Bingley to the Bennet ladies. And, not only do we know that Mrs. Bennet and Mrs. Long have had this conversation, we know it because Elizabeth is the one who provides this reminder to her mother!

Again, we can rely on Mrs Bennet for absurdity, for although she and Mrs. Long have obviously been talking, and Mrs. Bennet felt free to share information about such a private topic as her husband's lack of civility with regard to calling on a new neighbor, Mrs. Bennet then declares "I do not believe Mrs. Long will do any such thing ... and I have no opinion of her." But not a moment later, when the talk turns to the next Assembley, Mrs. Bennet is once again ready to rely on Mrs. Long's introudction: "Mrs. Long does not come back till the day before; so it will be impossible for her to introduce him, for she will not know him herself."
