Yes   Written by Elbč (4/16/2010 9:22 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, (Altruism = good manners) vs. Darcy, penned by Akaruihi
Are you new?

I think altruism is the glue which keeps a society together. Without rules of civility and the occasional self-sacrifice there would be chaos and we would tear one another to bits. Ofcourse altruism works best when all members of the group acts altruistically, which is why uncivil behaviour (like that of Darcy's) is frowned upon as it threatens the network of reciprocal civility within a group. Darcy is being selfish at this point and he deserves the dislike of the people present. If self-preservation and gratification is to be a better virtue than self-sacrifice, then Darcy has done no wrong, but I consider selfishness a vice. Whether he always is selfish in every aspect, I cannot yet tell.
