Darcy, the Conversationalist Chapter 9 -- Mrs. Bennet arrives at Netherfield
Mrs. Bennet mentions the poetry-Jane affair; Lizzy dismisses poetry as the voice of love; Darcy questions her judgment (one sentence); smiles at her scintillating response and remains quiet. (Should I let you know I really like Lizzy's speeches? :-) Mrs.Bennet & Co. depart, Lizzy returns to Jane; Darcy rebuffs the Binglettes' (neat term!) sneers. Chapter 10 -- Lizzy at Netherfield
Darcy asks for music from Lizzy and Caroline; Lizzy refuses, Caroline leaps. Darcy tries twice to get Lizzy to dance. Next day, during a walk outdoors, Darcy dragged into rebuffing Caroline's criticism of Lizzy. Darcy attempts to include Lizzy in the outing. Rebuffed by Lizzy. Chapter 11 -- Jane comes down from her bedroom
Darcy rebuffs Caroline's attempt to draw him into conversation. Darcy drawn into the wonderful exchange about the faults of pride, vanity, temper. Darcy starts with wit and spice, becomes dull but intelligent; Lizzy is scintillating and intelligent. At least he's now a full participant. Chapter 12 -- Jane and Lizzy leave Netherfield
