I've always been puzzled by the ending of the famous discussion in chapter 11.
"And your defect is a propensity to hate everybody."
"And yours," he replied, with a smile, "is wilfully to misunderstand them."
I wonder about two things
(1) Didn't Lizzy cross the line in polite Georgian society when she told Darcy he 'hate[d] everybody'?
(2) When has Lizzy has demonstrated to Darcy that she wilfully misunderstands what people say? I have looked for evidence, but I've found little.
I am sure the denizens of RoP will be able to enlighten me.
P.S. While this is my first Pemberley post, I've been lurking for a while, and avidly following this group read. I've just introduced myself on the Newbie board.
