What makes me laugh . . .   Written by Mary Anne (4/16/2010 12:11 a.m.) in consequence of the missive, An Accomplished Woman, penned by Robbin
Are you new?

. . . is when you look at Caroline's exact words, things can take on a rather different character:

"A woman must have a thorough knowledge of music, singing, drawing, dancing . . ." etc.

Knowledge is not necessarily the same as actually being able to do these things. That's the obvious meaning, but I might well be able to respond that I have a pretty thorough "knowledge" of opera, but I'm not about to go and audition for a role in The Pearl Fishers when I know I don't have the vocal talent. So by Caroline's standard, someone who could discuss these topics intelligently could be considered accomplished. (And extensive reading would certainly help in this!)

I just point this out because my focus (sort of) for this read is to look at people's spoken words versus how they might be interpreted or misinterpreted by the listener(s). Lots of that going on in this scene!
