There are fewer references to gossip (and information obtained thereby) in the last few of this week's chapters:
In ch.9, Mrs. Bennet tells Bingley "You will not think of quitting (Netherfield) in a hurry, I hope, though you have but a short lease."
How does she know the length of his lease? Did he mention it, or is this one of the things Mrs. Bennet has heard through the grapevine? Mrs. Bennet does seem to be well-informed on the practical details of her neighbours' lives!
At the end of ch.12, we have more information about the militia regiment via Kitty and Lydia: "several of the officers had dined lately with their uncle, a private had been flogged, and it had actually been hinted that Colonel Forster was going to be married."
(Let's see if that last one turns out to be true! ;-)
