What we do know...   Written by Adrian (4/15/2010 2:14 p.m.) in consequence of the missive, Who's to say..., penned by Cheryl
Are you new?

...is that some aspects of the relationship have a long history.

"You mistake me, my dear. I have a high respect for your nerves. They are my old friends. I have heard you mention them with consideration these twenty years at least."
(Ch. 1)

I expect other aspects of the relationship have developed on both sides during the marriage, and I am confident that as the family grew (without sons) some stresses grew and resulting changes occurred. But Mrs. Bennet's (claims of) nerves seem to date back almost to the start of the marriage.
