|When does Darcy ever falsely apologize?

in consequence of the missive, Darcy reminds me a little of some present day public figures who, penned by AnnetteJ
I also despise such false apologies, but I see no evidence that Darcy was guilty of them. In fact, I am so far from being biased in his favor, that I will say he has shown no remorse for any of the hurtful truths he has uttered, unless they affect the appearance of his own honesty! I think he may try to make up for his statement disparaging Lizzy's beauty by making much of her "fine eyes" to Caroline without embarassment. He may see this as a necessary nod towards truthfulness. But since he never lets Lizzy overhear him, as he did with the insult, he is certainly not trying to soothe her hurt feelings. IMO he hasn't shown much regard for others' feelings at all. He speaks what he believes to be the truth and lets others take it as they may.
My point above was that he is not disingenuous, even when he is wrong. People who apologize for others' feelings, but not their own actions or words, are>.
