Darcy was attending a social event, and he was not only NOT sociable, he avoided all attempts at being socializing. AND he insulted a young woman for no (valid/justifiable) reason. As far as Bingley's request, I didn't say that Darcy had to dance -- I said that was one option -- but he certainly could have said no a couple of times without insulting Elizabeth.
