I noticed that Mrs. Bennett is somewhat aware of, and impressed by, Mr. Bennett's capricious speeches. After all, she says: "I wish you had been there, my dear, to have given him one of your set downs," when speaking angrily of Mr. Darcy's slight at the Meryton Ball. Obviously, Mr. Bennett's wit is sometimes turned in a direction that gives Mrs. Bennett a vicarious victory.
