in consequence of the missive, Bingley's attitude, penned by Line
Looking to see if Elizabeth should have known of Darcy's admiration will turn up little, certainly! But, what of Caroline? She knew Darcy's habits, so any variation in them would stand out for her, while Elizabeth might miss it. Caroline has been given a hint by knowing Darcy's opinion of Elizabeth's 'fine eyes;' she would be doubly attentive to signs.
If Darcy's attraction was not distracting her, would Caroline have noticed her brother's anxiety for Jane's health more? Is this no increase of how Mr. Bingley would normally act - considerate, well-bred, sincerely interested and well-wishing of all those in his circle?
Darcy's blunt honesty in admitting his admiration aloud might have had more effect than he could foresee, if it allows Bingley to focus more on Jane during her visit!
